R.I.P. Gregory Isaacs

Posted on October 25, 2010 by

One of reggae’s finest, Gregory Isaacs passed away at 59, this morning in London. The singer was best known for his hit singles like, “Night Nurse,” “Rumours,” “Number One,” “If I Don’t Have You” and many more. Gregory Isaacs had been struggling with his health for awhile and he succumbed to his sickness in his London home surrounded by family.

He will go down in history not only as one of Jamaica’s greatest artist, but one of the most positive and creative artists of all time.

I’ve decided to post two of my favourite songs from Mr. Isaacs below.

Gregory Isaacs – “Number One”

Gregory Isaacs – “If I Don’t Have You

Rest in peace.

Mitrice Richardson found dead

Posted on August 13, 2010 by

I remember reading about this case months ago and was so angry that law enforcement would release Mitrice Richardson into an unfamiliar neighbourhood on her own, with no cell phone, no money and in the state that she was in. If you are unfamiliar with this story, Mitrice Richardson was arrested 11 months ago after not being able to pay a $89 bill at a restaurant in Malibu. Richardson was delirious and even spoke about being from Mars. When law enforcement arrived, she was arrested and her car was impounded. Law enforcement later released Richardson early in the morning, into an unfamiliar neighbourhood where she then vanished. There were phone calls released of Richardson‘s mother, Latice Sutton, pleading with authorities to keep her daughter locked up so she can travel herself and pick her up, because she’s not in her right state of mind and has no idea where she is. They didn’t take heed to her mother’s warning. Now, 11 months later,

Michael Jackson: Do you remember?

Michael Jackson anniversary

I honestly can’t believe it’s been an entire year since MJ passed. I remember the day like it was yesterday. It was the day of my cousin’s high school graduation and I was on twitter (as usual), fooling around and blabbling about nothing. I saw the first tweet go up (I wish I could remember from whom), but I instantly started doing my research. Shortly after, I hit up TMZ (the ‘firsts” in the blogging game) and there it was. They had a lot of information in very little time. At that point, CNN was so behind (I still think that’s why twitter became so popular) there was no point in watching them, tweeting was the only way to go. After everything was confirmed, I remember going the entire day (myself and my family) saying, “I can’t believe Michael Jackson is dead“. Mind you, I do not know him personally, I’ve never met him, so for this to hit me and others so hard, was surreal. I remembered crying (although, I’m certain is was mixed emotions from my dad’s and uncle’s death), but nonetheless, I cried. You start remembering people (especially the good things) when they’re gone. I listened to old music I had of him, watched old videos (MTV and BET didn’t help), he was everywhere. I’m not one to go on and on about celebrity deaths, but for whatever reason, MJ‘s death hit me and I truly felt it. I always felt alone arguing with others about the crap in his life (including the trials) and I never felt that he was “creepy” or “weird,” for whatever reason, I understood him. I looked deeper into what he had to say, sure it was easy to judge him, but he had a place in my heart and that made me want to look beyond the headlines. The lawyer in me just won’t let someone off without an argument a winning argument.
Anyway, this was all written to say, I’m still saddened by his death because it could have been prevented. There are so many questions and so little answers. I purchased a shirt recently (because I was online surfing and can’t help but use my credit card *sigh) that said, “LEGENDS NEVER DIE” with a picture of MJ on it. He was truly a legend and an icon. May his soul continue to rest in peace.
