Raven-Symoné is back on TV; lands new series on ABC

Posted on February 1, 2011 by

Raven-Symoné is one of my favourite people in entertainment and also one of the most hard working. The multi-talented star has landed a spot on ABC Family with her new series, The Great State of Georgia. I’ve posted about Raven being back on TV in the past, but this time she’s landed a half-hour comedy series, centered around an aspiring actress named Georgia (played by Raven). Georgia is a girl with big dreams and an even bigger personality, who, along with her science geek best friend, Jo (played by Majandra Delfino), tries to make ‘headway in New York.’

I’m excited for this series and will tune in. Raven definitely knows how to make an audience laugh.

Aretha Franklin responds to Halle Berry’s decline to play her in biopic movie

Posted on January 27, 2011 by

Aretha Franklin has been throwing around names for awhile now of who would be perfect for her upcoming biopic movie. She made headlines last week when she said she wanted Halle Berry to play the role, to which, Halle Berry declined.

Halle told E! News on the red carpet:

“If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice.”

Aretha later made this statement to Wendy Williams on Monday:

Will Smith, Jada and Jay-z know how to make money; next move? Film

Posted on January 26, 2011 by

Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay-Z are no strangers to successful partnerships. The three joined forces when they decided to invest in the beauty line, Carol’s Daughter and soon after they co-produced the play, “Fela!” What was probably one of their most popular and smartest partnerships was Will and Jada‘s daughter signing to Jay-Z‘s label, RocNation, which produced Willow‘s first hit single “Whip My Hair.” Now three of the most powerful and successful people in Hollywood are joining forces again to form a joint-venture with Overbrook Entertainment to produce major motion pictures. The first project is the remake of the famous Broadway musical, Annie, which will star Willow Smith.

I smell the sweet smell of success and although the remake is in its preliminary stages, I’m excited at the thought of this production.

Jay-Z (via Billboard):

“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award-winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative and innovative.”

Dream big.

G-Dep pleads not guilty after confessing to murder

Posted on January 14, 2011 by

I’m really not sure how you go out of your way and walk into a police station, confess to a murder and then turn around and plead “not guilty,” because your confession was supposedly “influenced by drugs.” Whether or not it makes sense, G-Dep appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to to second-degree murder. I’m sure this is a strategy by his lawyer to get what he feels is best for the rapper. I reported on this story last month and in that post I included statement from the officer that said G-Dep felt he needed to confess because it was “eating away at him.” I feel if you did such a commendable thing and truly felt remorse, then you would want to face the consequences of your actions, no matter how harsh.

Tia Mowry is pregnant!

Posted on January 11, 2011 by

On almost every interview she does, Tia Mowry gets asked about her marriage and soon after gets asked about plans for a baby. She appeared on Wendy Williams with the other cast members of The Game last night and said she does plan on having a baby. Little did we know, she was already warming up a bun in the oven. I did find it a little strange that her costar on The Game, Hosea Canchez tweeted “our baby is having a baby,” earlier today and I speculated he was speaking about Tia, but didn’t make the connection right away.

US Magazine has confirmed that the Sister, Sister and The Game star is indeed expecting her first baby with her husband, Cory Hardrict. I am so happy for them.

US Magazine:
