Buju Banton has been in high spirits since his Buju Banton Before The Dawn concert, which brought out some of the biggest names in dancehall and received superb reviews. The Grammy nominated artist has been out on bail since November 2010 and this month he will be back in court to fight for his freedom at his retrial. Buju‘s retrial is set for February 14 and he will now be facing 4 charges, as opposed to the original two. Yesterday the judge in Buju‘s case, Judge James Moody, dismissed a motion to have the new indictment thrown out.

He will now be tried for ‘conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine,’ ‘attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine,’ ‘possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offence’ and ‘using the wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offence.’

I’m such a big fan of Gyptian and his music. He was among the many artists who performed and came out to support Jamaican artist, Buju Banton last week at his concert, Buju Banton Before The Dawn, in Miami. I really wanted to post footage of this show, but it seems if you didn’t get a chance to watch footage within the hour of it being posted, you’re out of luck.

Buju Banton is currently out on $300, 000 bail after he was arrested over a year ago for conspiracy to possess, with intent to distribute five or more kilogrammes of cocaine and faced a hung jury in October. He has since maintained his innocence and will face another trial next month. I’m so glad to see Buju getting back to what he does best, entertain. He was shown a lot of love and support throughout his trial as well as last week, while in concert.

What may have seemed like a lifetime to reggae artist Buju Banton, the almost one year stay in jail has come to an end. The artist can breathe easy for awhile after he was granted bail in an immigration court. Although he was granted bail for $300,000 last month, there were issues that enabled him to be released from jail, which were cleared up yesterday.

Buju (real name Mark Myrie) , his family, friends and fans have been sitting on edge since September during his trial where a jury of twelve were unable to reach a decision and ended in a hung jury. Soon after, Buju‘s lawyer fought for bail and although his conditions include wearing a tracking device, this news is all his fans and family could ask for.
