Was there any doubt these two would come out on top? Two of the most influential duos in hip hop wouldn’t dare disappoint. The Watch The Throne album sold a whopping 436,079 copies.
I can here Jay-Z now, “The ROC is in da building.”
Nicki Minaj already made headlines after her first week album sales and now that it’s been 3 weeks, Nicki has sold over 500, 000 copies, going gold and surpassing Kanye West (who was number one in the first week). So far Nicki Minaj has sold 560,992 in the Unite States.
In the words of Jay-Z: “Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.”
Good job Nicki.

According to preliminary numbers given by Nielsen SoundScan, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj (who both lent a hand one each others albums), lead the pack with Kanye‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy selling 495,000 and Nicki‘s Pink Friday selling 375,000 in the first week. Regardless of some media outlets trying to sabotage Kanye‘s album release by continuing to peg him the ‘bad guy,’ his music spoke for itself this time around and he came out on top.
Nicki Minaj had to deal with her fair share of drama during her album release as well, from random rappers releasing diss records, to one of hip hop’s most prominent women, Lil’ Kim, dubbing Nicki‘s Pink Friday release, “Friday The 13th.” Even so, her first week sales dismisses the doubt and proves she may have standing power.
I’m excited to see both Kanye West and Nicki Minaj‘s official first month sales.
The overnight celebrity, or so it seems, is already working on his new album. His current album Thank Me Later was released on June 15th and topped the charts with a total of 462,989 first week sales.
Drake tweeted:

I can only imagine what Drake has in store for us next time around. Good for him, stay grinding.
For those who wanted anything besides an album drop, sorry for the let down :p.
Nicki Minaj released the official date for her album and for her fans, this news is epic. Nicki is finally giving the people (between just people I know personally, I can’t even count) what they want.
Nicki tweeted:
Yes. It’s time. November 23rd
It’s amazing she still doesn’t have an album and regardless of what you think of her, you have to give her props for the buzz she’s created. Amazing.
