Posted on June 29, 2010 by

Aside from the performances I wanted to blog about a few highlights I felt were worth mentioning.

John Legend accept the award for 2010 Humanitarian during the 2010 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 27, 2010 in Los Angeles, California
John Legend receiving the Humanitarian Award was a high light for me, good for him! Now stop with all these hairline jokes! J ain’t having that!

John Legend on the hairline jokes:

“And to the haters, I’m still smarter, more talented, more successful and better looking than u. So fall back. Sorry y’all. Couldn’t believe my hairline was a trending topic. Get a life!”

Nicki Minaj accepts the awards for Best Female Hip Hop Artist during the 2010 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 27, 2010 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaNicki Minaj‘s speech was a highlight for me as well, you heard that Lil’ Kim? Nicki said:

“Thank you to Queen Latifah, because you know what, earlier we were rehearsing and she just gave me so much positive energy and I think it’s so important right now for positive energy among women, because I’m fighting for women. This is not for me, this is for all of us, so thank you to all the female rappers that paved the way for me.”

Nia Long and Larenz Tate speak onstage during the 2010 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 27, 2010 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaThese two are so sexy, are they dating? If so, I’m late… if not, whoever they are dating needs to be replaced :p. Nia Long is so beautiful, I’m always in awe of her.

Alicia Keys performs onstage during the 2010 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 27 in L.A.Alicia Keys on that piano was more of a pregnancy scare than a highlight. Ha :p

Drake accepts the award for Best Male Hip Hop Artist during the 2010 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 27, 2010 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaDrake winning Best Male Hip Hop Artist over everyone who was nominated (including Jay-Z) was a highlight. Not as a “ha ha” but because that’s an amazing accomplishment from someone who just dropped their first album a month ago.

Keyshia Cole performs onstage during the 2010 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 27, 2010 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaKeyshia Cole‘s appearance was a definite highlight, I missed her! Her and her future hubby looked so cute! I’m happy for them :)

BET Awards 2010 Best of: Performances

Chris Brown performs during a segment honoring Michael Jackson at the 2010 BET Awards in Los Angeles June 27, 2010
Chris Brown performs Michael Jackson tribute

While watching the awards, I said Chris Brown had the best performance. Please understand I have a soft spot for Michael Jackson and that includes anyone who does what he does some justice (so maybe, just maybe my opinion is biased, just a bit). I was very disappointed in the tribute BET threw together last year and really thought Chris should have been apart of it. Now that he was, I’m pleased, I thought he did well and I was entertained. (RIP MJ!). Oh yea, Chris also cried. Moving on.

Hip-hop artist Kanye West performs his new single "Power" at the opening ceremony of the 2010 BET Awards in Los Angeles June 27, 2010As I stated in a previous post, I was super excited to see Kanye! I don’t care what anyone thinks, I missed him. I’m gonna admit I was too busy taking in the fact that he was back and actually rocking a stage again to really comment on anything he was doing. The tweets about him on top of his mountain were hi-la-rious though :D

Hip-hop artist Eminem performs his new single "Power" at the opening ceremony of the 2010 BET Awards in Los Angeles June 27, 2010Eminem‘s performance was great, he’s one of the best MC’s and one of the few to actually rap about something and not just anything

Singer and actor Prince accepts Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 BET Awards in Los Angeles June 27, 2010The entire night I came saying, “Prince looks like Rihanna.” I don’t know what it is, but every time he flashed that pretty smile, I saw RiRi! His tribute was alright, the best part of it was definitely Patti Labelle and her famous disappearing shoe act.

BET Awards 2010 Best of: Red Carpet

Posted on June 29, 2010 by

The BET Awards took place last night in Los Angeles at Hollywood’s Shrine Auditorium and though one may think a owner of a blog site does not have a life, I assure you that I do have one and going over ever detail of the experience would interrupt that. So, to make it easy on myself and a lighter read for you, I decided to do a BEST OF edition in separate posts (in MY humble opinion, of course :) . The awards were one of the best ones for me, I complained a lot last year (as many others did), surprisingly, I didn’t complain at all this year. One for BET!

Let’s get to my Red Carpet favourites…

Ciara looked great last night, not only on the red carpet but every time the camera hit her. She wore a black and metallic gold dress from the Balmain Fall 2010. Work mama!

Although I wasn’t really feeling Taraji P. Henson‘s dress (an ice Mandalay asymmetrical cocktail dress), she looked absolutely gorgeous! I love this woman, she has such a winning personality on and off stage!

Ok, my sister tried to stop me from putting Brandy on my “BEST OF” post (tsk), but call me crazy, I thought Brandy looked cute on the Red Carpet.

I absolutely loved Keri Hilson‘s look (less fashion, more hair though) I tweeted “Keri‘s hair looks like mine, did she see one of my twitpic? :p). Ok, so the joke was only funny to me ha! Anywho, she looked fab!

Nia Long was definitely one of, if not the best dressed on the Rep Carpet. She was gorgeous from head to toe in her flattering Gucci dress.

Gabrielle Union looked like a prop queen. She always looks like a million bucks and she didn’t disappoint.

Michael Jackson: Do you remember?

Posted on June 25, 2010 by

Michael Jackson anniversary

I honestly can’t believe it’s been an entire year since MJ passed. I remember the day like it was yesterday. It was the day of my cousin’s high school graduation and I was on twitter (as usual), fooling around and blabbling about nothing. I saw the first tweet go up (I wish I could remember from whom), but I instantly started doing my research. Shortly after, I hit up TMZ (the ‘firsts” in the blogging game) and there it was. They had a lot of information in very little time. At that point, CNN was so behind (I still think that’s why twitter became so popular) there was no point in watching them, tweeting was the only way to go. After everything was confirmed, I remember going the entire day (myself and my family) saying, “I can’t believe Michael Jackson is dead“. Mind you, I do not know him personally, I’ve never met him, so for this to hit me and others so hard, was surreal. I remembered crying (although, I’m certain is was mixed emotions from my dad’s and uncle’s death), but nonetheless, I cried. You start remembering people (especially the good things) when they’re gone. I listened to old music I had of him, watched old videos (MTV and BET didn’t help), he was everywhere. I’m not one to go on and on about celebrity deaths, but for whatever reason, MJ‘s death hit me and I truly felt it. I always felt alone arguing with others about the crap in his life (including the trials) and I never felt that he was “creepy” or “weird,” for whatever reason, I understood him. I looked deeper into what he had to say, sure it was easy to judge him, but he had a place in my heart and that made me want to look beyond the headlines. The lawyer in me just won’t let someone off without an argument a winning argument.
Anyway, this was all written to say, I’m still saddened by his death because it could have been prevented. There are so many questions and so little answers. I purchased a shirt recently (because I was online surfing and can’t help but use my credit card *sigh) that said, “LEGENDS NEVER DIE” with a picture of MJ on it. He was truly a legend and an icon. May his soul continue to rest in peace.

Sisterly Love: Tamara and Tia Mowry

Posted on June 24, 2010 by

Tia and Tamara Mowry

Tamara Mowry tweeted a picture today of her and her sister Tia and I’m just in awe of these girls. The first thing I said was, “They are so beautiful.” Other than their beauty (keeping yourself looking fly takes care), I was also in awe of the way they carried themselves in other ways. They, like a lot of others, grew up in the spotlight, they had their fair share of fame at a young age and ’til this day I have yet to hear anything negative about them in the media. I think it’s better to congratulate some of these young stars on not taking the road that so many choose and then get lost on it. Every time I hear about them, they are doing something positive pertaining to their careers. Their brother Tahj Mowry, should also be congratulated. There is a lot of expectations when you are so popular so young and so far, I haven’t seen any of them fall apart (at least not on camera). They all seem very close and I think that closeness helps to deal with their world. Hollywood is one of the hardest places to live in when you are a young celebrity because of all the bad influences around you. So, when I see young people, like the Mowry‘s and even Raven Symone (from That’s So Raven) etc. I get excited! Now I don’t have to worry about my future daughter wanting to be apart of that world, I have some good influences she can follow. ;)

Still Bumpin’: Ding Dong “Holiday”

Posted on June 24, 2010 by

I simply can’t enough of this song. No matter where I am when I hear it, it instantly puts me in a good mood. It reminds me of summer, the beach, and having a good time. Who doesn’t want to be reminded of that?. So, I’m still bumpin’ this video and song and probably always will be. The video itself is a movie, I’m almost sad that I wasn’t apart of it :p. Jamaicans always seem to know how to have a great time even on their worst days and you can’t help but join in on the fun :D
